The Music Department stands as a hub of scholarly distinction in both musical composition and academic study.
In creative works, we embrace diverse styles while gaining recognition for specialties such as:
acoustic compositions spanning solo pieces to full orchestral works,
electro-acoustic creations encompassing pure sound art, real-time electronic performance, and hybrid instrumental/vocal pieces,
works bridging Western and global musical traditions.
Students and researchers benefit from extensive connections to performance opportunities at all levels.
Our musicological research covers not only classical Western repertoire but also film scores, Turkish music, and contemporary genres. Specialized knowledge spans medieval Iberian music, 19th-20th century works from major European nations, along with studies in jazz, hip hop, operatic arts, cinematic scores, technological evolution, musical diaspora, and broader cultural reception studies.
