Pursuing a PhD differs significantly from other postgraduate programs, as students develop their own autonomous research projects. The University of Bristol Law School delivers extensive research training through experienced faculty members, who additionally provide mentorship and oversight for your research. For those engaged in socio-legal studies, foundational training occurs through the MSc Socio-Legal Studies program, accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council.
PhD Law candidates join the school's core unit framework, which offers research student support, and gain access to the Law School's academic seminar series. Opportunities may arise for part-time teaching assignments within the department. Research students can also access funding for travel and conference attendance.
