The University of Aberdeen's School of Law combines cutting-edge research with centuries of academic tradition, having taught law since the institution's founding in 1495. We invite research students to work alongside our faculty and industry professionals in a stimulating scholarly setting.
Our Law School encourages candidates pursuing research-based law degrees, offering expert guidance across diverse legal disciplines. A vibrant research culture thrives here, with around 80 international students typically enrolled in PhD or research-focused Masters programs. Full-time doctoral candidates receive private office space with computing resources, while part-time and Masters researchers have access to shared workstations.
The Law School building houses a specialized legal library adjacent to teaching and faculty areas. This exceptional resource features extensive holdings in Scottish and English law, alongside significant collections covering EU, Commonwealth, and US legal systems. Notably, the library boasts an outstanding selection of Roman and Roman-Dutch law texts. As an official European Documentation Centre, these materials are conveniently located within the Law Library.
