Since 2010, the University of Bristol has provided specialized Clinical Neuropsychology programs in collaboration with North Bristol NHS Trust, home to a significant neurosciences and trauma treatment facility. These clinical training programs are designed to motivate healthcare professionals to expand their expertise in Clinical Neuropsychology while preparing them for listing on the British Psychological Society's (BPS) Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists (SRCN). The BPS-accredited MSc program fulfills the adult knowledge and practical requirements for advanced clinical neuropsychology training.
Approximately 80% of instruction comes from active clinical practitioners. We emphasize a biopsychosocial scientist-practitioner methodology, championing research that directly benefits patient treatment while ensuring clinical work remains grounded in current scientific understanding.
Students must independently obtain paid positions in neuropsychology services during their MSc studies to gain necessary clinical exposure, along with arranging appropriate work supervision. The program supplements this with expert guidance from SRCN-registered clinicians, assisting with case portfolio development and competency verification through feedback sessions, including mock viva examinations.
