Cellular membranes and their internal structures perform vital biological functions, from nutrient absorption and environmental sensing to intercellular communication. Representing over 20% of human genes, membrane proteins are implicated in numerous widespread illnesses and are targeted by most modern medications. The Integrative Membrane Biology team specializes in analyzing these proteins' structures and functions, particularly their impact on health and treatment. Our collaborative, interdisciplinary approach enables examination of membrane proteins at atomic, cellular, and organism scales. These investigations advance fundamental knowledge of membrane biology while contributing to drug discovery, biosensor innovation, agricultural enhancement, and microbial energy solutions.
