This program merges the comprehensive historical understanding and analytical abilities developed through history studies with the profound cultural insights and advanced language proficiency acquired from learning Spanish, the world's second most spoken European language.
You'll become part of two extensive departments featuring researchers across diverse specialties, with opportunities to cultivate expertise and methodologies applicable to both fields. Both departments foster a dynamic connection between academic research and instruction, creating an engaging educational atmosphere where faculty integrate cutting-edge findings into their curriculum.
Your studies will include a systematic Spanish language curriculum alongside explorations of Hispanic cultures and histories, with options to select from various modules covering literature, cinema, historical studies, philosophy, political science, language studies, and visual arts. Your third year abroad offers the chance to examine historical themes within the unique cultural framework of a Spanish-speaking nation, either through academic study or professional experience. University exchange students will focus on history-related courses, while those undertaking work placements will be guided toward opportunities in cultural heritage institutions.
In your final year, you'll independently investigate connections between history and Spanish through a research project incorporating Spanish-language sources. This dual expertise in historical knowledge, linguistic ability, and cultural understanding will position you exceptionally well to facilitate cross-cultural dialogue internationally.
The program employs various teaching methods including lectures, small-group tutorials, seminar discussions, practical workshops, and individual supervision. Evaluation formats range from oral presentations and written assignments to examinations, group projects, academic debates, digital media productions, and research papers.
