The University of Birmingham has educated Physician Associates (previously called Physician Assistants) since January 2008. As one of the UK's most established programs, we're proud to provide graduates with this chance to meaningfully impact national healthcare. We collaborate closely with medical facilities across the Midlands and other regions. According to the Faculty of Physician Associates (FPA), PAs are defined as:

Medically educated healthcare generalists, physician associates collaborate with doctors while delivering patient care as essential members of multidisciplinary teams. These professionals operate under designated medical supervision but maintain the ability to work independently when properly supported.

The Physician Associate role (previously titled Physician Assistant) represents one of the UK's fastest-expanding healthcare positions, working directly with physicians in both hospital and general practice settings. These medical professionals assist doctors with patient diagnosis and treatment, performing duties such as gathering patient histories, conducting physical exams, interpreting diagnostic tests, and determining medical conditions under physician oversight.
