The Applied Mathematics team engages in diverse research spanning Continuum Mechanics, Mathematical Biology, Nonlinear Systems, Numerical Analysis, and Scientific Computing. Recognized for groundbreaking and internationally significant work, the group fosters collaborations with industry, healthcare, and various scientific and engineering disciplines. It offers postgraduate research opportunities across numerous applied mathematics domains, with many PhD initiatives stemming from engineering challenges and involving partnerships with academic and industrial collaborators.
Continuum Mechanics remains a cornerstone research area within the School. Current investigations encompass bubble dynamics, biological fluid mechanics, dynamic wetting phenomena, porous media flows, liquid jet and droplet behavior, phase transition flows, fuel cell technologies, and beyond. This work integrates mathematical modeling, theoretical analysis of physical phenomena, and the creation of innovative computational approaches.
