At Birmingham, palaeoclimate studies combine sedimentology, palaeontology, geochemistry, and climate modeling to develop comprehensive insights into environmental transformations across past, present, and future timescales.

Our work encompasses investigations ranging from Proterozoic 'snowball earth' phenomena to sophisticated Holocene climate simulations. Key focus areas involve examining Cenozoic climate shifts, particularly the relationships between atmospheric CO2 levels, temperature variations, and oceanic chemistry. Specialized capabilities include stable isotope and trace metal geochemistry, organic biomarker research, quantitative micropaleontology, evolutionary studies, and Earth System and Climate Modeling techniques.
