The Master of Philosophy degree is granted upon completion of a substantial thesis (approximately 200 pages or 60,000 words). Examiners must confirm that your work demonstrates the ability to conduct research and/or scholarship at a publishable standard that would withstand peer evaluation, achievable typically within two to three years of full-time study (or four to six years for part-time students). Additionally, you'll need to show comprehensive understanding of your research field. This program is ideal for candidates with two years of research funding.
Our research focuses on critical atmospheric phenomena that shape weather patterns and climate systems.
Key areas of expertise include: Mountain and hill meteorology, both in the UK and internationally. Characteristics of the atmospheric boundary layer over land and sea surfaces. The physics and behavior of convective cloud systems, especially thunderstorms and cumulonimbus formations. The dynamics, microphysics, and climate impacts of stratocumulus and cirrus cloud formations. Mid-latitude weather systems including cyclones, frontal systems, precipitation patterns, and wind dynamics. Tropical meteorology, with emphasis on African weather and climate systems. Computational modeling approaches for weather and climate prediction.
