The MRes in Cancer Sciences is a full-time, one-year program that includes three instructional modules and an extensive lab-based research project. Tailored for students aiming for careers in cancer research, especially those planning to pursue a PhD, this program offers specialized postgraduate training.

Covering the full spectrum of cancer research—from fundamental insights into cancer development to the creation of precision therapies—the curriculum equips life and biomedical science graduates with comprehensive knowledge through targeted coursework and hands-on lab projects. Students will learn how advanced technologies and data analysis have enhanced our grasp of cancer's genetic and epigenetic drivers, as well as the role of the tumor microenvironment in disease progression and therapy. The program also investigates how innovative treatments have improved patient outcomes. The extended research component immerses students in contemporary lab techniques, offering rigorous training in cancer research methodologies.

Three core modules form the academic foundation: Cellular and Molecular Basis of Cancer, Genomics and Genome-Based Therapeutics, and Immunology and Immunotherapy. These are taught by distinguished researchers engaged in cancer studies, clinical trials, and patient care. The curriculum highlights the application of genomic analysis in translational research for cancer diagnosis and treatment, alongside breakthroughs in cancer immunology that have paved the way for immunotherapy. Research projects, typically lab-focused, cultivate skills in experimental design, execution, and scientific communication. A diverse selection of project topics is available, spanning cancer origins, detection, and therapeutic strategies.

Participants will develop both technical expertise and communication abilities valuable for careers in academia, clinical settings, or pharmaceutical research. The program emphasizes the importance of presenting research clearly, logically, and persuasively—skills honed throughout the course.
