Our BA in Social Anthropology and Anthropology at the University of Birmingham equips you to critically examine and interpret the complexities of modern society. Investigate diverse viewpoints on pressing global issues while challenging conventional wisdom. African societies present remarkable diversity, spanning from simple egalitarian groups to complex imperial structures. Stark economic disparities coexist with rich cultural traditions, where age-old oral histories blend with modern digital platforms, and sustainable environmental practices contrast with well-publicized food crises. Our Anthropology and African Studies faculty bring firsthand experience from non-Western regions, with language proficiency gained through immersive fieldwork. The Social Anthropology curriculum trains you in sourcing, analyzing, and presenting information while developing keen awareness of the cultural foundations shaping human behavior across different societies.
