The MRes Art: Exhibition Studies program explores contemporary art history by analyzing pivotal developments in exhibition formats. MRes Art comprises three specialized tracks: Theory and Philosophy, Moving Image, and Exhibition Studies. Through research and writing, the program fosters inquiry, speculative thought, and critical analysis. Leveraging expertise from faculty, guest lecturers, and practitioners, the curriculum examines how contemporary art research intersects with broader aesthetic, cultural, and socio-political concerns.
Students across all pathways have opportunities to collaborate during shared instructional components. The program actively encourages student-led initiatives, with past participants organizing research symposiums, publications, and contributing to Tate Modern's annual Tate Exchange program.
MRes Art is available in an extended full-time format spanning 60 weeks across two academic years. Students should dedicate approximately 30 hours weekly to their studies, encompassing both scheduled instruction and independent work.
This flexible structure allows participants to balance academic pursuits with part-time employment, internships, or caregiving obligations.
