Pioneering studies delving into societal and cultural realms, along with human-environment interactions. The University of Aberdeen's anthropology program launched around 2000, originally specializing in Northern Anthropology - a distinctive focus among British institutions. Our scholarly work has grown to include diverse global regions, spanning South America, Europe, and Central/South Asia. We examine numerous modern sociocultural topics such as belief systems, governance, interspecies relationships, museum studies, and indigenous rights movements.
Well-prepared candidates craft and pursue independent research initiatives with mentorship from faculty sharing similar academic interests. Prospective PhD students are strongly encouraged to reach out to potential advisors before submitting applications. The School of Social Science offers both full-time and part-time doctoral options, and we're open to discussing remote learning possibilities depending on each research proposal's requirements.
