Archaeology and History are complementary disciplines, ideal for students passionate about exploring the past. By combining these subjects, you'll gain deeper insights into specific areas that captivate you. Archaeology is a multifaceted field bridging humanities and sciences, offering a comprehensive examination of human history. Through investigating ancient lifestyles, societal structures, and environmental interactions, archaeologists address fundamental questions that equip us to solve contemporary global issues.
This dynamic discipline continuously reshapes our comprehension of human evolution through hands-on fieldwork, and Aberdeen's program equips students with versatile skills for archaeological or other professional careers. Situated near some of Britain's most significant archaeological sites, Aberdeen offers exceptional opportunities to engage with and uncover details about these treasures of our collective heritage.
Aberdeen's history faculty specializes in diverse regions including medieval Scandinavia, Renaissance Poland, and contemporary East Asia. The department encourages both independent and collaborative research, with scholarly work organized around four key themes:
Irish and Scottish Studies
Scandinavian Studies
Late Medieval and Early Modern Studies
The History of Global Empires
