This program provides a Single Honours Archaeology degree combined with French language studies.
Archaeology examines diverse evidence of human history, including artifacts, structures, settlements, and landscapes, to understand societal evolution. The curriculum covers global, European, and Irish/British archaeology across various eras, from prehistoric times to contemporary heritage. Queen's University Belfast ranks among the UK's top institutions for Archaeology, placing third for student experience in the 2022 Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide and first for student satisfaction in the 2022 Complete University Guide.
Alongside comprehensive archaeological training through excavations, fieldwork, international trips, and lab work, students in this French-integrated program develop advanced French language skills and study Francophone cultures (including literature, film, linguistics, art, and history). A distinctive feature includes a year abroad at a Francophone partner university during Stages 2-3, currently offered at the University of Burgundy in Dijon, France.
