Ulster provides a comprehensive 4-year Master of Optometry with Honours program. This course covers vision, eye disorders, and health-related ocular issues. As licensed professionals, optometrists can prescribe and fit visual aids including glasses, contacts, and low-vision devices. Their expertise extends to identifying, diagnosing, and treating eye diseases while rehabilitating visual impairments. Serving as primary eye care specialists in the UK, they handle numerous referrals to secondary care services. Our Optometry program reveals the captivating workings of the visual system while teaching students to enhance patients' eye health and vision quality across all age groups. The curriculum spans visual physiology and psychology, eye examination techniques, corrective lens prescriptions, and detection of ocular or systemic health issues. Students gain hands-on experience through our on-campus eye clinic's specialized facilities and local hospital rotations.
For those passionate about analytical thinking, scientific inquiry, and patient interaction, Ulster's Optometry program delivers exceptional professional training. With intentionally limited cohort sizes (around 36 students annually), our program guarantees superior access to clinical resources, advanced equipment, and faculty support. Consistently ranked among the UK's top three optometry programs by our graduates, this degree opens doors to diverse career paths including retail and hospital practice, optical manufacturing, vision research, and academic roles.
