Operating department practitioners (ODPs) play a crucial specialized role within the perioperative theatre team, delivering exceptional patient-focused care throughout anaesthesia, surgery, and recovery phases.
Your responsibilities will span the entire surgical environment, working across multiple specialties while supporting anaesthetists, surgeons, and the broader healthcare team.
Our patient-focused program provides the essential knowledge, abilities, and insights needed to thrive in fast-paced surgical settings. Upon completion, graduates can pursue registration with the Health and Care Professions Council.
The course offers hands-on experience in diverse specialties like general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, obstetrics, anaesthesia, and recovery. More than half of the training occurs in operating theatres across the Northeast, with guidance from seasoned professionals and Teesside ODP alumni. You'll experience varied shift patterns, including nights and weekends, for comprehensive learning. University-based instruction combines lectures, seminars, and practical sessions in advanced clinical labs and simulated theatres, all supported by our faculty's extensive real-world surgical experience.
