As a social worker, you'll collaborate with local communities to assist individuals facing challenges like domestic abuse, housing insecurity, disabilities, substance misuse, and other difficulties. You'll interact with diverse groups including children, adults of all ages, families, refugees, caregivers, care leavers, and those with mental health concerns, making meaningful differences in countless lives. Drawing on years of professional expertise, this course equips you with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on skills for professional practice. You'll also learn about the BASW Professional Capabilities Framework, covering emotional awareness, adaptability, reflective techniques, and protective measures.
Investigate human development from infancy through later life, examining life transitions and social work's role at each phase. You'll analyze communication methods and how to adjust approaches for different service users' needs. The curriculum also covers service access reasons, research ethics, and legal aspects of social work practice.
During your second and final years, you'll complete practical placements in real work environments, functioning as a social worker with guidance from instructors and experienced practitioners. You'll manage actual cases and oversee your own workload. Through consistent engagement with service users' real-life situations, you'll develop a deeper appreciation of the profession's requirements.
