Earning a PhD or MPhil in Translation allows you to undertake an extensive research project driven by your personal interests. These prestigious degrees can open doors to academic careers or expand job opportunities in translation, linguistics, education, government, and private industries. The PhD program requires three years of full-time study (or six years part-time), while the MPhil takes two years full-time or four years part-time. Candidates submit a thesis - up to 90,000 words for PhDs and 60,000 words for MPhils - showcasing original research that makes meaningful contributions to the field. Our department's innovative work has gained recognition and funding from organizations like Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), Wellcome Trust, and the EU. We host the Language Research Centre and lead groundbreaking initiatives in translation variation visualization.
