By employing diverse social theories and utilizing qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-method techniques, you'll conduct original sociological investigations into topics such as social class, race and ethnicity, gender and sexuality, education, health, employment, and welfare. Opportunities exist to collaborate with the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research and the Centre for Development and Research in Education. During this intensive, supervised research period, you'll partner with experts in your selected discipline to create an extensive thesis—up to 80,000 words for doctoral candidates. Optional modules and online supplementary courses are available to enhance your methodological, technical, and theoretical expertise, with completed coursework potentially counting toward your final qualification.
