Conduct and execute a research program under the guidance of expert supervisors specializing in historical periods from the late 1700s to modern times, covering subjects like imperial and global studies, gender history, European developments, cultural trends, and British political history. Our curriculum is built on core values that connect you with real-world contexts, foster collaboration, stimulate innovative thinking, and offer a nurturing space for personal and academic growth. For instance, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021 Impact Case Studies in History highlighted projects examining Germany's African diaspora and the intersections of feminism, abolitionism, and social dissent.
You'll collaborate with a supervision team comprising a Director of Studies and additional specialists relevant to your research focus. These advisors will assist in shaping your project, identifying necessary training, and offering guidance while cultivating your independence as a scholar.
During your studies, you'll engage with leading academics in your discipline. Financial support is provided for presenting at national and international conferences, and we actively promote academic publishing and public engagement with your findings. Every doctoral candidate plays a crucial role in enriching the University's scholarly community from the initial phases of their investigation.
