The MA Translation program integrates practical translation training and cultural mediation with theoretical instruction in translation methodologies. It stands out for its diverse specializations in Asian and African languages and cultures.
This course develops students' methodological and practical translation abilities, equipping them for careers as professional translators, language specialists, or cultural mediators, while also offering an academic foundation for potential MPhil/PhD studies. Learners benefit from extensive translation resources at the SOAS Library and neighboring institutions including University of London Library, UCL Library, British Library, and BBC World Service.
The SOAS experience is enhanced through research seminars at the Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) and practical opportunities like translation projects through Student Enterprise initiatives.
Leveraging SOAS's expert faculty, the MA Translation program provides language options such as Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Swahili, and Turkish.
