Social anthropology explores human cultures and societies globally, approaching each culture on its own merits while recognizing how cultural understanding helps interpret our world. This field equips us to comprehend cultural diversity and grasp how individuals, communities, and institutions perceive reality. At SOAS, social anthropology serves as a gateway to the field's history, theories, and methodologies - no prior anthropology background is required. This program offers an ideal foundation for adopting an anthropological perspective on global issues, or serves as excellent preparation for those considering advanced research degrees.
For students with previous anthropology experience, SOAS postgraduate studies provide opportunities to refine specializations and research focus areas. This includes potential language acquisition and in-depth exploration through customized research projects in our Dissertation module.
