The Persian Certificate serves as a foundational program for learning the Persian language.
Participants gain essential skills in both written and conversational modern Iranian Persian while exploring the region's historical and cultural context. When completed intensively over one year, it aligns with the initial year of a Bachelor's degree in Persian studies.
This program welcomes beginners with no previous Persian language experience.

Qualification Requirements
The minimum entry requirement is the ability to demonstrate the potential to study at undergraduate level. However, programmes may have their own specific requirements, such as, in the case of language-based studies, a proven ability to learn a language.
All applicants must be able to show that their English is of a high enough standard to successfully engage with and complete their course at SOAS.
If you have not yet taken an English language test, you can still apply for your degree, but we will include evidence of language requirements as part of your offer conditions. In all cases we consider the most recent test evidence.
