The MA in Medieval Studies, a joint program by Royal Holloway's Departments of English and History, has built a strong reputation over nearly three decades. Our program's excellence stems from its diverse curriculum, featuring medieval scholars from various disciplines including history, literature, French, theater, music, and archaeology. You'll explore multiple facets of medieval life while focusing on your specific interests.

This interdisciplinary approach allows you to examine medieval civilization through both literary and historical lenses, utilizing diverse primary sources ranging from artifacts and manuscripts to archival documents. The program focuses on developing essential research skills applicable to any specialization within medieval studies.

For those seeking advanced medieval studies without a research component, we offer a Postgraduate Diploma option. This pathway provides the same rigorous coursework while omitting the dissertation requirement.
