The Furniture & Product Design program is founded on the principle that hands-on craftsmanship allows designers to thoroughly investigate functionality and aesthetic possibilities in material creations. You'll develop into a proficient designer and artisan while critically considering the wider cultural, ecological, and commercial aspects of your work. Previously called '3D Design', this program has produced graduates prepared to deliver meaningful design solutions for more than a quarter century. Program alumni have influenced diverse professional arenas - creating lighting for brands like Anglepoise, engineering sophisticated furniture systems for transportation hubs, collaborating with renowned sculptors, and thriving in countless other creative environments. Your learning will take place in a dynamic studio and workshop environment, with instruction and evaluation through engaging design projects.
Career Opportunities
The Furniture & Product Design program has trained numerous accomplished designers throughout its 25+ year existence. Our alumni establish careers as designers and craftspeople throughout the creative sector, working in furniture and product design firms, manufacturing design, interaction design, branding, and the art world. During your studies, you'll acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical abilities essential for professional success in these areas and more.
The program supports emerging designers through a post-graduation residency initiative, helping entrepreneurial graduates launch ventures such as the Deadgood furniture label and David Irwin Studios.
