The Media, Society, and Cultural Studies (Research) MA is a specialized research degree designed to facilitate in-depth exploration of your chosen academic field.

The curriculum centers on your personal research initiative, supported by core research components and elective courses in media, social, and cultural disciplines.

Whether your goal is to progress to doctoral studies or advance your professional expertise, this program provides the necessary foundation.

As a structured research degree, the program balances independent study with guided supervision. Regular consultations with faculty mentors help refine your research direction, while specialized courses prepare you to design and execute a graduate-level research project.

The program also offers supplementary elective modules to broaden your academic perspective.

Nationally accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council, this program can serve as the foundational year for the four-year ESRC Northern Ireland/North East (NINE) Doctoral Training Partnership (MA plus PhD).

You'll receive advanced training in research methodologies, gaining sophisticated tools to investigate media, society, and cultural phenomena. The program cultivates both research proficiency and critical analysis skills, culminating in the creation of research suitable for academic publication.
Throughout the MA, you'll engage with advanced studies in media, society, and cultural research through a combination of discipline-specific courses and research methodology training.
