If you're fascinated by human communication and its power to shape perspectives, linguistics offers insights into how language defines our identity. This scientific discipline explores natural language evolution, structure, and universal patterns while investigating language acquisition and usage. Our program blends theoretical foundations with practical applications, primarily focusing on English while incorporating examples from other languages. Core curriculum covers syntax, semantics, pragmatics, forensic linguistics, phonetics, and phonology. You'll examine language variation across social contexts, media platforms, and intercultural environments. The course cultivates essential workplace skills including effective communication, critical analysis, and problem-solving. Following your second year, you may proceed directly to final year or select an optional placement/study abroad year - both valuable experiences we'll fully support you in arranging. While this degree specializes in linguistics and English language, we also offer a BA (Hons) combining linguistics with English literature.Career prospectsA linguistics degree equips you with versatile skills applicable across diverse professions. While teaching and translation remain common choices, language graduates find opportunities in multiple sectors worldwide. In our digital age, linguistic expertise has grown increasingly valuable, opening doors to careers in publishing, PR, marketing, education, telecommunications, or international consulting. Many graduates pursue advanced studies, including our MA in Applied Linguistics with specializations in English language or TESOL.

T level - We welcome applications from students undertaking T level qualifications. Eligible applicants will be asked to achieve a minimum overall grade of Merit as a condition of offer
IB Diploma - Pass overall with a minimum overall score of 26 or minimum 104 UCAS Tariff points from three Higher Level subjects
Other Level 3 qualifications equivalent to GCE A level are also considered. 
A maximum of three A level-equivalent qualifications will be accepted towards meeting the UCAS tariff requirement. 
AS levels, or qualifications equivalent to AS level, are not accepted. The Extended Project qualification (EPQ) may be accepted towards entry, in conjunction with two A-level equivalent qualifications.
