If you possess the ability to pursue degree-level studies but fall short of the entry criteria, a foundation year can serve as a stepping stone – preparing you for entry into Year 1. The curriculum is designed to boost your confidence and equip you with the necessary skills for your chosen degree program. Alongside the Academic Practice module that enhances your study techniques for higher education, you'll explore various humanities subjects. Upon successfully completing your foundation year, you'll advance directly to Year 1 of your selected honors degree.
Career Opportunities
Successfully finishing the foundation year ensures seamless progression into Year 1 of your chosen degree path.
Graduates of the BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing program pursue diverse career paths, particularly in media and education, where their adaptable skills prove valuable. Alumni have secured positions as educators in schools and colleges, while others have entered various sectors including banking, finance, manufacturing, and retail.
Additionally, there are opportunities for further education and professional development. Some graduates choose to continue their creative writing studies at the postgraduate level through our Manchester Writing School, guided by Professor Carol Ann Duffy DBE (Poet Laureate 2009-2019).
