The BA in English Literature with Creative Writing offers a focused creative writing track within an English Literature program, where 25% of your coursework involves fiction and poetry writing. This program explores English literature from its earliest texts to contemporary works. The creative writing portion emphasizes developing skills in fiction and poetry, teaching writing techniques, the art of revision, and the value of giving and receiving constructive criticism. Creative writing classes are conducted in intimate workshop settings. Students will frequently compose original poems and stories, study works by published authors, and analyze modern poetry and fiction. The curriculum includes in-class writing activities and workshop fundamentals. Additionally, you'll join Manchester University's vibrant literary community, located in a UNESCO City of Literature renowned for its influential authors and dynamic arts culture, featuring events such as the Manchester Literature Festival.

Qualification Requirements

A-level Grades AAA, including English Literature, or English Language & Literature (ie. not English Language alone). General Studies is welcomed but not normally included as part of the standard offer. AS-levels are not accepted in place of an A-level. The University recognises the benefit of the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the opportunities it provides for applicants to develop independent study and research skills. We strongly encourage you to provide information about the EPQ in your personal statement and at interview. For this programme, as well as the regular conditions of offer, we may make students who are currently taking or completed the EPQ an alternative offer. For this course it would be AAB with A in English Literature plus the Extended Project at Grade A. GCSE Applicants must demonstrate a broad general education including acceptable levels of Literacy and Numeracy, equivalent to at least Grade C or 4 in GCSE/iGCSE English Language and Mathematics. GCSE/iGCSE English Literature will not be accepted in lieu of GCSE/iGCSE English Language. International Baccalaureate 36 points overall. 6,6,6 in Higher Level subjects to include 6 in English Literature, or English Language & Literature (ie. not English Language alone). IELTS 7.0 overall with no less than 6.5 in any one component, TOEFL iBT - 100
