According to our latest faculty research, we invite proposals from individuals interested in these general fields: Buddhist studies, Christian theology, Islamic studies, Hindu traditions, modern religious and spiritual transformations, religious sociology, faith and mass media, contemporary religious philosophy and history, faith and governance, mystical and esoteric traditions, and gender in religious contexts. We maintain strong collaborative ties with associated departments and institutes, with potential for co-supervision arrangements.
Our MPhil program concludes with a 40,000-word dissertation, while the PhD requires an 80,000-word thesis. The doctoral program consists of two stages:
The initial probationary phase focuses on research training and thesis preparation. Students may enroll in specialized modules covering research methodologies and fundamental concepts within their chosen field. This period also involves composing a literature review and commencing thesis writing.
The final stage, contingent upon approval by an Upgrade Panel, involves completing research, finishing the thesis, and preparing for submission and defense.
Our department fosters an active research environment featuring weekly seminars. Students are also welcome to join faculty-wide workshops and research initiatives, with opportunities to connect with scholars across the university.
