The DThM represents Durham University's professional doctoral program in theology, designed for individuals exploring the connection between theological studies and practical application. This collaborative program with St John's College consists of two distinct stages. Initially, students participate in concentrated teaching sessions conducted biannually in Durham. Subsequently, they progress to the research component, pursuing advanced doctoral studies in their selected specialization under the guidance of an academic team comprising faculty from both the Theology and Religion Department and St John's College.

Qualification Requirements

You will need to have an MA in theology or a related discipline with an average of 65 or above to be accepted onto the programme. If you have an M.Div you will be required to have a GPA of 3.7 or above. If you have an MA in an unrelated area you may be required to take two 30 credit modules at MA level before you can be accepted onto the programme. St John’s College/Cranmer Hall have a number of modules in the MA in Theology and Ministry programme that can be completed at a distance. Students need to have: IELTS: 7.0 with no component under 7.0; TOEFL iBT: 102 (writing 27, no component under 25); 185 (minimum of 185 per component) in Cambridge Scale (CPE or CAE); Pearson Academic (PTE): 70 (with no less than 70 in each Communicative Skill).
