This program equips you with in-depth expertise in this specialized field, preparing you for career success. Whether you choose research, professional psychology practice, or another path, you'll be well-positioned to progress into leadership roles.

Developmental disorders encompass any condition impacting typical growth from conception through adulthood. These may stem from genetic factors, birth complications, environmental influences, or often have unclear origins. Some disorders lead to predictable outcomes, while others result in more varied developmental paths. These complexities highlight the challenges inherent in studying developmental disorders.

Lancaster hosts one of the globe's premier developmental psychology research centers. Our department, focused on early childhood development, ranks among the UK's top research groups in this field. The program delivers sophisticated psychological knowledge coupled with practical experience valuable for any career path. You'll learn from our internationally recognized researchers and benefit from our ESRC-accredited doctoral-level training.

The curriculum includes five taught modules plus a significant research project, ensuring you acquire both comprehensive skills and specialized knowledge applicable to diverse careers or further academic pursuits.

Two core modules will strengthen your professional capabilities, particularly in gathering, analyzing, and interpreting psychological data. These fundamental skills prove essential whether advancing in research or entering specialized psychology fields like clinical or forensic practice.
