The Master of Research is an innovative postgraduate research program available in all Schools at The Glasgow School of Art (GSA). This degree enables students to develop and execute either practice-led or theoretical research projects. Students can pursue this program at GSA's Glasgow campus, the Highlands & Islands location, or a combination of both. Designed as a pathway to doctoral studies, qualified participants may transition to a PhD program in their second year (full-time). The program offers flexible study options, with full-time (1 year) and part-time (2 years) durations available. Unlike traditional taught courses, this program blends customized research training—delivered through seasonal schools (winter, spring, and autumn at our Highlands & Islands campus)—with significant independent research guided by a dedicated supervisory team.
