This four-year dual degree program is offered through our Department of Languages and Cultures alongside the top-rated Department of Linguistics and English Language. The curriculum features an international study component during the third year. Spending a year overseas allows you to fully engage with the language and culture. No prior Spanish knowledge is required, as we provide an intensive beginner's course.
Our Spanish Studies program focuses on achieving complete fluency. Combining Linguistics with Spanish Studies enhances your understanding of language structure, providing insights into English, Spanish, and numerous global languages. Second-year courses include offerings like Global Language Phonetics and Modern Spain and Latin American Studies.
Your overseas year will strengthen both your cultural awareness and language proficiency. Options include university exchange programs or professional internships to apply your skills in authentic settings. Department advisors will prepare you thoroughly for your immersion experience in a Spanish-speaking environment.

Required Subjects A level Spanish, or if this is to be studied from beginners level, AS grade B or A level grade B in another foreign language, or GCSE grade A in a foreign language. Native Spanish speakers will not be accepted onto this scheme.
IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each component. TOEFL IBT - 87 overall, minimum of 17 in listening, 18 in reading, 17 in speaking and 20 in writing. Cambridge English: Advanced CAE 176 overall with at least 162 in each element.
