Applied Linguistics is a rapidly growing and impactful field of study. As the first undergraduate program of its kind, it prepares students to analyze language across various critical settings such as healthcare interactions, artificial intelligence, education policy, forensic linguistics, communication disorders, digital media discourse, and multilingual environments. Learners will explore English phonetics and syntax, delve into cognitive processes behind language use, and assess the implications of linguistic choices. The curriculum incorporates hands-on collaboration with professionals and organizations, allowing students to specialize in specific areas through focused research. Language presents intricate challenges, and by employing statistical, computational, and scientific approaches, students will develop skills to analyze linguistic data and derive insights for solving real-world problems. Located at our beautiful Singleton Park campus amidst scenic views of Swansea Bay near the Gower Peninsula, our English with Applied Linguistics and English Language program earns high praise from both students and employers: English Language ranks among the Top 20 in the National Student Survey (NSS 2020), placed second in Wales, while English studies secured 7th position in the UK for research excellence (REF 2014-2021).
