Lancaster's History and International Relations program is collaboratively taught by our History Department and the Department of Politics, Philosophy, and Religion. This interdisciplinary approach allows you to develop comprehensive expertise in both fields under the guidance of leading academics.
The curriculum focuses on global political history from 1780 onward while exploring diverse theoretical frameworks of the contemporary world. You'll examine how historical events and international relations intersect, with coursework covering areas like diplomatic relations, counterterrorism, religious tensions, and global human rights issues.
Starting with foundational courses such as From Ancient to Modern: Historical Perspectives and Contemporary World Politics, you'll progress to advanced modules like Applied Peace Studies and Global Relations, Security, and Environmental Sustainability in your second year.
