This program invites you to tackle thought-provoking inquiries about how political, social, and cultural transformations affect individuals, communities, and regions. Whether studying African-American slavery or Stalin's Russia, Essex households or German witchcraft, the evolution of disease or Chinese revolutions, we encourage you to investigate the past to gain deeper insights into contemporary issues.
The four-year MHist option (extending to five years with study abroad or placement) builds upon the BA's foundational historical skills while delving into advanced subjects for a master's qualification. At the undergraduate level, you'll enjoy the flexibility to select from numerous optional modules covering both local and global themes, alongside specialized master's-level topics like public history, identity studies, and conflict memory.
A history degree unlocks diverse career pathways. Beyond gaining historical knowledge and contemporary understanding, this program equips you with transferable skills for post-graduation success. You'll master information processing, critical evaluation, persuasive communication (both verbal and written), and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
