Lancaster's combined German Studies and Theatre program is delivered collaboratively by the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA).
The German Studies component enables you to develop advanced language proficiency while thoroughly examining Germany's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a global framework. In Theatre studies, you'll explore groundbreaking 20th and 21st century theatrical works and performances through a dynamic blend of hands-on practice and academic study.
During your first year, you'll investigate German language and culture while being introduced to fundamental theatre concepts and practical techniques, culminating in a performance project. Additionally, you'll pursue a complementary minor subject to enhance your degree.
In your second year, you'll advance your language capabilities while delving deeper into German-speaking cultures and political systems. You'll choose from internationally-focused modules that foster comparative understanding of European and global contexts, alongside specialized courses offered by LICA.
