Lancaster's combined German Studies and History program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Department of History.
The German Studies curriculum enables you to develop advanced language proficiency while gaining comprehensive insights into German-speaking societies within a global framework. In History, you'll enhance your analytical skills through courses covering British, European, and American world history.
During your first year, you'll examine the German language and its cultural background alongside the foundational History course. You may also select an additional History module or a complementary subject from another discipline.
In your second year, you'll advance your language capabilities while delving deeper into the culture, politics, and history of German-speaking nations. You'll also choose internationally focused modules that foster comparative perspectives on Europe and other regions, complemented by core History coursework and electives.
Your third year abroad in a German-speaking environment significantly boosts your language mastery while refining your intercultural awareness. Options include studying at a partner institution or completing a professional placement.
