Lancaster's combined German Studies and English Literature program is delivered through a collaboration between the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Department of English and Creative Writing.
The German Studies component helps you develop advanced language proficiency while providing comprehensive insight into German-speaking cultures worldwide. Meanwhile, the English Literature curriculum covers diverse authors, literary styles, historical eras, artistic movements, writing techniques, and analytical methods.
During your first year, you'll examine the German language within its cultural framework alongside core English Literature studies. You may supplement these with additional English courses like World Literature or Creative Writing, or opt for a complementary minor subject.
In your second year, you'll enhance your language abilities while delving deeper into the culture, politics, and history of German-speaking nations. You'll also select internationally-focused modules that foster comparative understanding of European and global contexts, paired with core English studies and various elective options.
