Lancaster's combined French Studies and Philosophy program is delivered collaboratively by the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion. This course features an international study abroad component during the third year.
The French Studies curriculum enables you to develop advanced linguistic abilities while comprehensively exploring the nation's historical, cultural, social, and political landscape within a global framework. The Philosophy component fosters your ability to form independent critical viewpoints on philosophical issues, equipping you with diverse analytical approaches to examine and debate complex philosophical questions.
In your first year, you'll examine French language and culture while being introduced to fundamental philosophical problems and their corresponding theoretical solutions. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to select a complementary minor subject.
During your second year, you'll enhance your language proficiency while delving deeper into the cultural, political, and historical aspects of French-speaking societies. You can also choose from internationally-focused modules that encourage comparative analysis of European and global contexts, alongside a selection of specialized Philosophy courses.
