This four-year dual degree program is offered through our Department of Languages and Cultures alongside the top-ranked Department of Linguistics and English Language. The curriculum features an international study component during the third year. Spending a year overseas provides the exceptional chance to fully engage with both the language and culture. Previous French experience isn't required, as we provide an accelerated beginner's course.

Our French Studies program focuses on achieving complete fluency. Combining Linguistics with French Studies enhances your understanding of language structure, giving you deeper insights into both English, French, and numerous other global languages.

Your overseas year will significantly boost your intercultural awareness and language proficiency. Options include studying at a partner institution or undertaking professional placements to apply your language skills in authentic settings. Department advisors will thoroughly prepare you before your immersion in a Francophone environment.

Upon returning to Lancaster, your final year enables you to advance your French to C1/C2 levels on the Common European Framework, with opportunities to focus on specific academic interests. You may also opt to undertake an in-depth research project on a topic of your choice.
