This program examines how societies perceive crime and deviance while striving to maintain order, justice, and control. Throughout the curriculum, you'll analyze how cultural norms, personal experiences, and societal disparities are influenced by both local and global contexts. You'll investigate how law enforcement approaches adapt to cultural changes and major events, while examining media's role in shaping public views on criminal behavior.
The curriculum includes an in-depth look at England and Wales' legal framework, addressing systemic biases within justice institutions and how societal systems can perpetuate inequality. You'll make international comparisons, studying how activism, unlawful acts, and law enforcement operate across boundaries.
Additionally, the program provides practical experience opportunities through internships with victim assistance organizations, advocacy movements, human rights initiatives, and global nonprofit organizations via a dedicated placement component.
