Our research degree program is rooted in one of the UK's most established and distinguished hubs for medical and life sciences education and research. It emphasizes the importance of humanities, social sciences, and arts research as a counterpart to the empirical, positivist methodologies employed in other areas of the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. This cross-disciplinary environment fosters research that connects academic fields, values personal and subjective experiences alongside clinical and scientific knowledge, and spans research, educational practice, and patient and public engagement. We are dedicated to advancing healthcare and reducing disparities through innovation and deeper insights into clinical and scientific education. Our postgraduate research focuses on: The training and student journeys of aspiring medical professionals and scientists at every career phase. This work expands on our strengths in clinical education, including our Master’s in Clinical Education, experiential learning through the Chantler Simulation and Interactive Learning Centre, and our medical humanities initiatives.
Organizational culture, policy shifts, and systemic changes within medical and life sciences education. Our researchers have published studies and consensus statements exploring the interplay between policy, education, and professional practice.
Public and patient viewpoints, expectations, and experiences related to medical care and life sciences. Our team includes specialists in creative methodologies that document patient experiences while serving as health interventions, social initiatives, and platforms for public science engagement.
