OverviewThe Centre for Language, Discourse & Communication (LDC) invites applications for its MPhil/PhD program in Language, Discourse & Communication. This program provides an opportunity to conduct publishable research that offers novel insights into your academic discipline.Housed within King's College London's School of Education, Communication & Society (ECS), the LDC is an internationally recognized hub for language research, with particular expertise in discourse analysis and sociolinguistics. The Center's primary research focus on 'Identities and Mobilities' highlights its specialization in studying (multilingual) identities across diverse everyday, institutional, and media contexts.PhD candidates work under the guidance of LDC faculty members. Prospective students are encouraged to explore the LDC website to identify research areas and potential supervisors.Program DescriptionThe MPhil/PhD in Language, Discourse & Communication is designed to advance your academic and professional development while preparing you for a research career.The Center provides comprehensive research training and supervision across various (socio)linguistic methodologies, including: cognitive linguistics, conversation analysis, corpus-assisted discourse studies, discourse & sociolinguistic approaches to digital communication, interactional identity studies, narrative analysis, and small stories research. Qualification Requirements

Minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree and a Masters degree with at least a high Merit in a subject appropriate to the research area.

Applicants should provide evidence of capacity to work at distinction level, and a piece of independently produced academic work (e.g. a Master's essay/dissertation or published or unpublished paper) that has been assessed by the supervisor and admissions tutor as showing potential for doctoral level work.

An approved professional qualification and extensive practical experience in the relevant field may be taken into account when evaluating an application.

IELTS (Academic) - 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in each skill.
TOEFL iBT - 100 overall with a minimum of 25 in writing and 23 in each of the other skills.
Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 69 overall with a minimum of 62 in each communicative skill.
