Enhance your bioscience graduate expertise and gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge research through our MRes Bioscience (Infectious Disease) program. Immerse yourself in an intensive research project conducted in our advanced laboratories, acquiring specialized knowledge and diverse research competencies that will prepare you for PhD studies or professional roles across multiple sectors. This one-year research-intensive master's degree offers exceptional opportunities to engage deeply with academic research, whether as a terminal qualification or as preparation for doctoral studies or industry careers.
The program's centerpiece is an independent research endeavor in infectious diseases during semesters two and three. This immersive project allows you to broaden your research capabilities, with potential options for national or international placements depending on your chosen specialization.
Depending on your research focus and supervisor's connections, you may have the opportunity to conduct your project at partner institutions either domestically or abroad, gaining valuable experience in specialized laboratory environments.
Initial coursework in semester one builds essential research competencies including literature analysis, advanced methodologies, proposal development, and experimental planning to support your independent investigation.
Through your research project, you'll refine advanced investigative abilities - developing research plans, conducting comprehensive studies, and interpreting findings within your field's scholarly context. You'll present your work through various scientific formats including a thesis, oral defense, academic poster, and conference presentation. The program cultivates transferable skills in laboratory research, analytical thinking, project management, teamwork, and scientific communication.
Your final dissertation will showcase your capacity to define research questions, develop testable hypotheses, design and execute experiments, process and interpret data, contextualize findings within existing scholarship, and communicate complex research through professional scientific writing.
