The MA/MRes in Politics and International Relations features a specialized pathway system, enabling students to develop expertise in core aspects of the field while concentrating on their preferred subjects and research questions. The program offers pathways in Politics, Middle East Politics, US Politics, International Relations, and Global Security, all taught by renowned academics with established reputations in their respective fields.
The Politics pathway analyzes political institutions, processes, and the actors involved, investigating how various systems operate, their underlying mechanisms, and their societal impacts. Course modules study political actors' ideologies, behaviors, and decision-making processes while addressing fundamental issues of governance, justice, representation, and democratic principles. This approach provides students with both analytical tools and critical perspectives on political dynamics.
Core modules introduce essential theoretical frameworks and research methodologies in Politics and International Relations, establishing foundational knowledge for advanced study.
Students then customize their program by choosing five (MRes) or six (MA) elective modules, allowing for either theoretical exploration or empirical investigation. Options include region-specific studies (Europe, US, or Middle East) as well as globally-oriented courses.
The capstone dissertation provides an opportunity for in-depth independent research, letting students thoroughly investigate a self-selected topic within the discipline of Politics.
