In today's highly connected and globalized society, developments occurring across oceans can rapidly impact our daily lives. While political leaders occasionally collaborate to address challenges, divisions and potential confrontations remain ever-present realities.

Our flagship program, the MA in International Relations, draws a diverse international student body. The curriculum emphasizes fundamental theoretical frameworks of the discipline, equipping you to analyze both historical and current global affairs. Rather than focusing solely on the academic evolution of international relations, the program prioritizes interpreting and explaining world events.

An Essex politics degree carries the prestige of coming from one of the globe's top-ranked political science departments.
The MA International Relations cultivates valuable professional competencies sought by both government and corporate employers, including critical analysis, research methodology, effective communication, and technical writing.
We provide doctoral supervision (PhD/MPhil) across multiple specializations: governance, ideology studies, international affairs, political psychology, and political theory.

Our scholarly standing is evidenced by alumni who now hold teaching and research positions at prestigious institutions worldwide. Current graduates serve as faculty members and researchers at: Mannheim University (Germany), ETH Zurich (Switzerland), Duke University (USA), NATO/SHAPE (Belgium), and the University of Amsterdam (Netherlands).
